false cyberheist gets employee fired

“ Yes, this is true, which is why you were not fired immediately. I’m afraid we aren’t at liberty to discuss the details of the investigation at this time, but we needed to inform you it was happening. It is company policy to place you on indefinite leave.”

William’s mouth opened just a little, his eyes darting around the room.

“But if I don’t know what happened and nobody asked me anything, how do I know why this is happening?”

Marie shifted a bit in her chair.

“Unfortunately, we have to maintain the integrity of the investigation,” said Marie.
William stared at the floor for a moment, then rested his eyes on each executive in the room for a few seconds and cleared his throat.

“I would never have done anything like this. Don’t I have the right to defend myself?”

The silence in the room boomed. Each executive remained still as stone. No one spoke.

“Mr. Burrough, we can’t make any decisions for you. We assure you this was not a decision we made lightly,” said Karun.

William climbed out of his chair and walked toward his car, pondering what he would tell his wife.

William’s long, hard years of  commitment and stellar services didn’t save him from experiencing the greatest threat to his livelihood and well-being. And his company had to send home one of its best employees because of accused cyberheist..
